On December 18, 2023, Honorary Consul Heiko Schmidt paid an inaugural visit to Mr. Oliver Schenk, the Chief of the Saxon State Chancellery and State Minister for Federal Affairs and Media.

The focus of the discussion revolved around economic aspects and questions related to scientific cooperation, specifically addressing the structural transformation prompted by the challenges of climate change.

Mr. Schenk particularly emphasized the upcoming International Science Conference scheduled in a few months, with the motto Building Bridges for a net zero future. The conference's focal points will be microelectronics, sustainable construction, hydrogen, and fusion energy. According to State Minister Schenk, the conference's name is not coincidental, as Saxony sees itself genuinely as a bridge builder between Western and Central Europe, as well as the Eastern EU member countries.

Mr. Schmidt pointed out that INNO-CON, in collaboration with business partners, organized a conference this fall in Sofia named Sustainable and Environmental Manager Day, with a focus on hydrogen. The presentations at the conference garnered significant interest among the participants.

In addition to matters concerning the scientific and economic deepening of relations between the Free State of Saxony and Bulgaria, the State Chancellery also expressed a keen interest in cultural exchange with the Balkan country, which boasts a rich millennia-old history shaped by great cultures throughout the ages.
